Holly Fulger

Founder & Executive Director

Holly Fulger is an actress, writer, and producer. As an actress, she is best known for her roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie series ZENON, GIRL OF THE 21st CENTURY, and as Holly in the sitcom, Ellen. Being in the spotlight, Holly has experienced the good, the bad, and the misguided aspects of beauty in American culture. She has written numerous articles on beauty. An article she wrote for iCNN sparked an additional conversation where Holly and seven other women were interviewed on their perception of beauty. To Holly, the most interesting part of this was listening to other women’s stories and hearing how difficult it was for them to really say what is beautiful about themselves.

This began her exploration into true beauty and in 2012 she created Speaking of Beauty, a web series and website, dedicated to opening up the conversation. This was followed by her book, Speaking of Beauty’s Inner Beauty Journal, based on interviews with 16 women of different ages, races, and backgrounds. The result was a guide to help women recognize that their individuality defined their beauty, not their skin color, age, or body size.

This evolved into The Hollywood Beauty Detective web series in 2016, which was dedicated to shining a light on the illusion of beauty, and then to the nonprofit, True Beauty Discovery, digging even deeper into our beauty ideals psyche.

Through each incarnation, Holly has built and led teams, created numerous opportunities for individuals, and held strong that every girl and woman is beautiful and deserves to feel that way. She is committed to redefining the Western beauty image and seeks to inspire a new generation of girls and women to reframe their own definitions of what is beautiful. Her hope is by exploring other versions of beauty, True Beauty Discovery will open up the conversation about beauty to create a more inclusive definition.
