“As a working actress, I have fallen victim to second-guessing my worth. I found myself falling short of the Hollywood beauty ideal that pervades American society and fuels women’s insecurity.”

— Holly Fulger, True Beauty Discovery Founder

Our Story

The journey of True Beauty Discovery began in 2012 with a single question: What does it really mean to be beautiful?  That question sparked the creation of “Speaking of Beauty,” a web series and online platform dedicated to opening up an honest, inclusive conversation about beauty and identity. What followed was the release of “Speaking of Beauty’s Inner Beauty Journal,” a reflective guide grounded in interviews with 16 women of diverse ages, races, and backgrounds. The book invited readers to define beauty on their own terms—beyond hair, makeup, and body size—by recognizing the power of individuality and lived experience.

In 2016, this evolving dialogue took on new urgency and clarity through The Hollywood Beauty Detective, a web series that pulled back the curtain on the illusions and pressures created by the beauty industry. The series explored how media shapes our psyche—and how we can reclaim the narrative.

This evolution laid the foundation for True Beauty Discovery (TBD)—a bold, multi-platform movement that digs even deeper into the ideals, influences, and identities that shape how girls and women see themselves. TBD is a celebration of confidence—the most powerful and beautiful part of any girl, woman, or femme. We lift up stories of real beauty through:

  • Candid, educational conversations about confidence and identity

  • The True Beauty Box, a curated retail experience promoting authentic self-care

  • A digital library of Legendary Women and Girls recognized not for appearance, but for character

  • Unscripted storytelling through reality television and online media

At TBD, we believe that beauty isn’t something to chase—it’s something to reclaim.
